NMR of Quadrupole Nuclei in Organic Compounds

Inquiry

Creative Biostructure uses quadrupole nuclear NMR to analyze organic compounds containing quadrupole nuclei. Our service can provide customers with information on chemical shifts, chemical results, relaxation times, molecular properties, and other information on organic samples, and can also be used for quantitative analysis. Our services can provide important information to researchers in various fields, including chemistry, biochemistry, and materials science.

NMR of Quadrupole Nuclei in Organic Compounds

Technical Advantages

  • High sensitivity. It can even detect small amounts of organic compounds containing quadrupole nuclei, which is suitable for analyzing trace molecules.
  • Non-destructive. The analysis process does not alter the sample.
  • High resolution. Allows separation of signals with very small frequency differences.
  • generality. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy can analyze various nuclei, including quadrupole nuclei.
  • Quantitative analysis. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy can be used to obtain quantitative data on the molecular structure and properties of organic compounds containing quadrupole nuclei.
  • Minimal sample preparation. The sample usually only needs to be dissolved in a suitable solvent for analysis.

Analyzable Samples

The quadrupole nuclei that we can analyze by NMR include nuclei with non-zero electrical quadrupole moments, such as chlorine 35, chlorine 37, bromine 81, and iodine 127.

Examples of organic compounds containing these quadrupole nuclei include:

  • Chlorinated hydrocarbons, such as chlorobenzene, chloroform, and dichloromethane.
  • Organobromides, such as bromobenzene and dibromomethane.
  • Organiodides, such as iodobenzene and diiodomethane.
  • Other organic compounds containing heavy halogen atoms, such as 1-bromo-4-chlorobenzene and 4-iodotoluene.

The Information We Can Obtain from NMR Analysis

  • Chemical structure. This includes the number of quadrupole nuclei present and their position in the molecule.
  • Chemical shift. Includes information about the chemical environment, such as their proximity to negatively charged atoms or their position in the aromatic ring.
  • Spin lattice relaxation time (T1)
  • Spin relaxation time (T2). It provides information on the rate at which quadrupole nuclei lose coherence due to interactions with other nuclei.
  • Information on the properties of molecules. Such as molecular weight, conformation, and symmetry.
  • Quadrupole nuclear magnetic resonance analysis can also be used for quantitative analysis, such as determining the concentration of organic compounds in samples.

Service Process

StepDescription
Sample requirementsThe sample must be prepared by dissolving the organic compound in a suitable solvent for NMR analysis, typically deuterated chloroform or deuterated dimethyl sulfoxide. The sample must be free of impurities and the concentration must be suitable for the required analysis.
Data acquisitionWe set the instrument to the appropriate frequency for the quadrupole nucleus being analyzed. The instrument then applies a series of radio frequency pulses to the sample to excite the quadrupole nucleus and cause it to emit an NMR signal.
Signal processingThe collected NMR signal data is processed to remove any background noise, chemical shift effects, and any other unwanted signals. After that, the data is plotted on a graph, usually displayed as a spectrum.
Spectral interpretationThe obtained spectra provide information about the chemical environment of quadrupole nuclei in compounds. Based on this, we can infer the chemical structure, composition, and properties of molecules for our customers.
Analysis and reportingAfter analyzing the data, we will issue an experimental report to the customer, usually a chemical displacement value in parts per million (ppm) or in hertz (Hz).

Creative Biostructure is committed to providing high-quality NMR analysis services to advance the life sciences fields. If you have any questions or needs, please contact us and our customer service staff will help you the first time.
